Personal Info

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon passionate about medical retina. I have been based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire  since moving my consultant post from the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham in 2001.

My past experience.

I graduated and obtained my specialist certificate in Italy. I then spent two years of clinical and research fellowships in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and St Thomas's Hospital, in London. Thereafter, I  continued doing research at the University of Rome. On returning to the UK I worked as a registrar and took my fellowship exams in order to fully establish my career in this Country. In 2000, prior to taking my first NHS consultant post,  I visited several American Universities where I consolidated my specialist knowledge.

My key developments in the private sector.

I have invested to bring state-of-the-art on-site digital retinal imaging and fluorescein angiography to private patients.  I developed the photodynamic therapy (PDT) service for choroidal neovascularisation and age-related macular degeneration (CNV) at the Warwickshire Nuffield Hospital in Royal Leamington Spa, to serve the people of Coventry and Warwickshire.

My key developments in the NHS.

I have introduced leading edge diagnostic techniques in Coventry and Warwickshire like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG-A). I developed the services for Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and introduced Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for wet macular degeneration.
